March 28, 2012, ISC West, Las Vegas, NV —Tamron's President Morio Ono announced the release of an 18x board-mount zoom lens with a focal length of 4.7 to 84.6mm and a maximum aperture of F/1.6. The lens (model DF003) is compatible with 1/3"-format megapixel-resolution cameras.
The market for networked surveillance cameras has experienced significant growth, and the demand for high image quality has brought about the creation of megapixel-resolution surveillance cameras. Tamron focused its attention on this market for megapixel-resolution surveillance cameras from an early date, and last year it entered the market with a series of Vari-Focal lenses compatible with megapixel-resolution cameras for box type cameras. Tamron, foreseeing the increasing variety in camera types, has now developed a board-mount zoom lens compatible with megapixel-resolution cameras that can be used with high resolution speed dome cameras.
Compatible with 1/3"-format imager size.4.7mm at the wide end, resulting in a 55 degree horizontal angle of view. This is superior to the angle offered by ordinary zoom lenses. From extra wide to telephoto, this lens offers high resolution imagery across a broad 18x zoom ratio. With its highly compact design which, despite achieving a more wide angle plus a bright F/1.6 maximum aperture, this lens, at just 81mm long, will fit within current dome camera housing and platforms. The use of Aspherical lens elements means that it achieves excellent performance in both accuracy and image quality across the entire zoom range. The lens incorporates highly durable actuators that maintain performance in a variety of installation environments.A Day / Night switching function is included.
