PHILADELPHIA (ASIS 2012 Booth #2000) – Sony Electronics today announced the NSBK-DH05 H.264/MPEG-4 decoder board for its NSR-500 HD Network Surveillance server. This optional display accelerator board is the perfect solution for viewing live H.264/MPEG-4 HD video via HDMI while the NSR-500 records it. It is suitable for a wide range of surveillance applications such as Banking, Education, and Retail.

The new decoder board adds significant additional utility to the NSR-500. In its standard configuration, the server is designed primarily to record, store and playback surveillance video. The live streaming video capabilities have a limited frame rate suitable for set up and testing purposes. The NSBK-DH05 adds real-time viewing of multiple cameras, allowing it to be used as the central hub of a full-function video surveillance system. The decoder is designed only for the high-efficiency H.264/MPEG-4 codec and defaults to the NSR-500’s onboard processing when set to record in JPEG.

“The NSR-500 surveillance server has proven itself as a robust, reliable, and economical way to store and review video on a full HD surveillance system, and the addition of live monitoring makes this an all-around solution,” said Mark Collett, General Manager, Sony Security Systems Division. “The NSR-500/NSBK-DH05 combination makes this an easy choice for those seeking turnkey simplicity in HD.”

Building on a Rock-Solid LINUX Platform

The NSR-500 network surveillance server is simple to setup and easy to operate and has a scalable, flexible design. The 16-camera capacity is expandable to 24 with additional licensing. Also, it is easy to add additional storage as cameras are added to a security system. It has 6-bays for internal storage for up to 12TB capacity (2TBx6) and 16TB external storage expansion possible via iSCSI interface.

The NSBK-DH05 H.264/MPEG-4 decoder board’s added live streaming capabilities can display any or all of the cameras connected to an NSR-500, up to the server’s full 16-channel capacity. The maximum decoding speeds vary depending on the number of channels supported:

Max. 60fps (30fps x 2ch) at 1,920 x 1,080 / 4Mbps
Max. 60fps (15fps x 4ch) at 1,920 x 1,080 / 4Mbps
Max. 120fps (30fps x 4ch) at 1,280 x 720 / 2Mbps
Max. 135fps (15fps x 9ch) at 1,280 x 720 / 2Mbps
Max. 270fps (30fps x 9ch) at 720 x 480 (576) / 1Mbps
Max. 240fps (15fps x 16ch) at 720 x 480 (576) / 1Mbps

The NSBK-DH05 is planned to be available in early October 2012.
