Datacard Group, the world leader in secure ID and card personalization solutions, today announced significant enhancements to its desktop family—including new hardware innovations, as well as more secure supplies and overlays—to deliver an optimal mix of affordability, security and durability in government, corporate and school ID card programs.
After speaking with many security-minded customers and following extensive research and development, the company’s new market-driven breakthroughs include:
- The Datacard® SD460™ card printer and laminator;
- A new inline lamination module added to the Datacard® CD800 card printer;
- New unique, patent-pending tactile impression feature that makes cards more secure
- New serialized laminates with optional integrated bar code reader
“As organizations face more serious and escalating security threats, photos and basic identity data are no longer enough to protect identities and facilities,” said Connell Smith, vice president at Datacard Group. “It’s very important for issuers to have a more sophisticated, layered approach to ID card issuance to increase security and durability in their card programs—while keeping costs low. In particular, the all-in-one CD800 card printer with laminator and new SD460 card printer uses direct-to-card printing, as well as encodes and laminates in one pass, offering better reliability and faster throughput. Unlike competitive systems, both printers also offer a new tactile feature that distinctly and physically impresses a tamper-evident image into the card substrate at the time of personalization, creating an extra level of an overt security feature that makes any alteration attempts to the card clearly visible.
Issuers can also combine the printers with the new Datacard®DuraShield™ clear or holographic overlays—which are difficult to remove intact, provide edge-to-edge protection for greater card security, and are four times more durable than basic topcoats. This allows the card to not only be more secure, but have a very long card life because they will be resistant to abrasion, chemicals and normal wear and tear.In addition, with the new laminating printers, Datacard Group offers unique serialized laminates that work with the optional integrated bar code reader to enhance security and audit control of supplies. This helps deter alteration and counterfeiting of documents.
