Southwest Microwave’s INTREPID MicroNet II Fence Detection System

Solution ideal for U.S. correctional applications

Tempe, Arizona - Southwest Microwave is pleased to announce the availability of the INTREPID™ MicroNet™ II Fence Detection System. For use at United States correctional facilities, INTREPID™ MicroNet™ II is the new-generation version of Southwest Microwave’s field-proven MicroNet™ perimeter fence detection system, designed for applications where the detection of cut or climb attempts is required. A newly enhanced FSK communications system increases the range for system communication across the sensor cables.

“MicroNet™ has been the Correctional industry’s highest performing fence detection technology for nearly 20 years, using proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms to precisely locate escape attempts to within ten feet while ignoring harmless disturbances caused by wind, rain or vehicle traffic,” explained Tom Buckley, Southwest Microwave’s Director of Marketing - Correctional Systems.

“Because MicroNet™ II provides the superior signal-to-noise ratio, bandwidth and dynamic range of previous MicroNet technology, our Correctional customers can expect a comparably high probability of detection (Pd) and low nuisance alarm rate (NAR)”, he said.

With a coverage area of 400 meters (1312 ft) per processor, Southwest Microwave’s MicroNet™ II system consists of a MicroNet™ Processor Module and two MicroPoint™ sensor cables that are tie-wrapped to a perimeter fence or topper wire. The processor module provides the system intelligence to perform powerful alarm signal processing, DC power distribution and data communications networking (via FSK), eliminating the need for extra wiring.
The cable detects fence vibrations, permits easy connection of the perimeter system and supports DC power, data communications and escape detection capabilities. MicroNet™ II detection zones are set in software to cost-effectively tailor zoning to suit each correctional facility’s unique requirements.

As part of Southwest Microwave’s new-generation INTREPID™ suite of single-platform detection solutions, MicroNet™ II can be networked with the MicroTrack™ II Buried Cable Detection System and the MicroWave 330 Digital Microwave Link using a common, open architecture communications protocol.

"MicroNet™ II’s ability to detect escape attempts to within 10 feet and network with our INTREPID™ buried cable and microwave sensors expands the flexibility of proven MicroNet™ technology, which has been a reliable solution for US correctional facilities in 31 states since the mid-90’s,” Buckley said. “We are confident that Southwest Microwave’s Correctional customers will have many new applications for this upgraded solution.”
