PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - June 4, 2008) - The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), a federal agency under the Department of Commerce, has awarded a contract to Probaris in support of the agency's efforts to comply with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). Probaris is a leader in the identity management software and solutions market. HSPD-12 is a presidential directive, published in August 2004, mandating a common identification standard for all federal government employees and contractors.

Probaris will install Probaris ID, the complete end-to-end secure identity solution, to produce smart identity credentials for USPTO personnel. The USPTO will use the credentials for physical and logical access control within their enterprise architecture. As all federal agencies move towards compliance with the FIPS-201 standard, USPTO credentials will have the ability to interoperate with other federal agencies' access systems. Probaris ID produces personal identity verification (PIV) credentials in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing 201 (FIPS-201) requirements of HSPD-12. Probaris ID includes NIST and GSA certified components delivered as a turnkey identity solution for enrollment and card issuance. Probaris ID incorporates best-in-class technology from leaders in the identity management industry, including: ActivIdentity, Aware, and Crossmatch.

Under the terms of the contract, Probaris will deliver:

-- Identity proofing and vetting, and document authentication software to prevent fraud and duplicate registrations;

-- Secure workflow software to provide role separation and a chain of trust during the credential lifecycle;

-- Software to provide multi-biometric identification enrollment and management of facial images, live scan fingerprints, and fingerprint minutiae;

-- Card management system software and integration components for interfaces to public key infrastructure to manage the credentials; and,

-- Professional services to analyze business rules and integration of logical and physical security system components.
