Denmark-based DiviTech A/S will become part of Cisco. An agreement to purchase DiviTech was announced on Wednesday by Cisco; the price was not disclosed.

DiviTech has provided a solution for media broadcasters, cable and IPTV service providers with their digital-service management (DSM) solutions. There has been speculation that the technology being acquired by Cisco would also fit well for managing video surveillance networks and delivering hybrid security video.

"The move to merge physical security over an IP network with the IT network has been a hot topic for a couple of years and the fact that Cisco has designed this product to support non-IP video surveillance equipment will help take the pain out of migration to IP-based surveillance," wrote a blogger on the Cisco Subnet blog on NetworkWorld.com

Cisco said it will integrate DiviTech's DSM product line with its Cisco ROSA network. Cisco has recently made pushes into managed video in the surveillance video space and also with on-demand data and video from its digital signage operations. The company has also looked at how its high-end video conferencing solution, Telepresence, could work as part of an enterprise's overall video management strategy.

"DiviTech provides Cisco with a core team of some of the most talented engineers in the DSM market," said Dean Rockwell, vice president and general manager of the Digital Media business unit in Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group. "DiviTech's DSM platform will serve as the foundation for Cisco's continued leadership in next-generation management tools and applications for complex video networks."
