The Los Angeles City Council’s Public Safety Committee approved a proposed ordinance Monday that would require alarm dealers verify that homeowners had obtained a permit and paid a licensing fee prior to installing their system.

According to published reports, the ordinance, which is intended to help police fine violators of the city’s false alarm law, will now be forwarded to the full council for a vote.
