    Doug DeLeaver
    Former Chief of Police
    Maryland Transit Administration Police

    Doug DeLeaver is a 37-year Law Enforcement Officer from the State of Maryland. Doug spent 22 years with the Maryland State Police, retiring on July 1, 1992 with the rank of Lieutenant. On July 1, 1992, the Governor of Maryland appointed Doug to the rank of Captain to the Maryland Natural Resources Police. On July 1, 1993, Doug was appointed Major and the executive assistant to the Superintendent of that Department. On December 2, 1998, Doug was appointed to the Maryland Transportation Authority as Director of Strategic Planning, at the request of the Chief of that Agency. On July 1, 2000, Doug was appointed to the rank of Colonel as the Chief of Police for the Maryland Transit Administration Police Force.

    With more than four years covering the public transportation industry, Mass Transit magazine editor, Fred Jandt, has visited dozens of transit authorities on three different continents and seen firsthand how they implement security at their locations. Fred has interviewed the directors of three of the largest transit security forces in the United States, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) and NJ Transit, to learn how they cope with the day-to-day struggle of keeping their customers and employees safe. Fred also writes a weekly blog, the MT Position, where he discusses the latest headlines affecting the transit industry.
