William Brown recognized during gala for fire safety heritage of Kidde

FARMINGTON, Conn., May 16, 2007 – The FDNY Foundation presented its annual Fire Commissioner's Humanitarian Award to UTC Fire & Security President William Brown yesterday during a gala dinner held at the New York Hilton. The award recognizes the distinguished fire safety heritage of Kidde, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. Kidde is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The FDNY is the largest municipal fire department in the U.S. and protects more than 8,000,000 residents. UTC Fire & Security supports the FDNY's mission through Kidde's partnership with WABC-TV and the Operation Save A Life program, which has donated nearly 200,000 smoke alarms to NYC families in need.

"Our outreach efforts include educating people on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. While a lot has been done, much work remains. More than 2,000 people in the US die each year from CO poisoning, and 40,000 more are sent to the emergency room - yet only 13 states have legislation requiring the installation of CO alarms in residential buildings. New York and New York City have led the way. It's clear that when other states follow their lead, many lives will be saved," said William Brown, President, UTC Fire & Security.

The FDNY Foundation also honored two executives in the real estate/property development industry, Arnold Fisher, Senior Partner, Fisher Brothers and John Santora, COO, Cushman & Wakefield.

The FDNY Foundation supports the critical life saving work of the Fire Department of New York. As the official fundraising vehicle for the FDNY, the Foundation works collaboratively with the Fire Department to support its most crucial priorities: to reduce firefighter and civilian deaths and injury.
