A 21-year-old woman sleeping at the Residence Inn near the Country Club Plaza was awakened early Sunday by a hand massaging her back
She screamed and the stranger fled, but when he opened the door she recognized him.
The man working as desk clerk that night was charged Wednesday by Jackson County prosecutors with two felonies and a misdemeanor.
Brian J. Olesen, 27, of Overland Park was charged with first-degree burglary, attempted sexual assault and third-degree assault.
Police said the intruder created a key card to the woman's room. The woman did not use the secondary steel lock, because she was expecting friends to return.
After the assault, Olesen allegedly went to the pool and sat down with the woman's friends, court records said. The victim got dressed, ran to the pool and yelled at Olesen. One of the friends held Olesen until police arrived.
The hotel hired Olesen about two months ago to work the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, said general manager Joe Andrick. Andrick said a background check did not reveal a misdemeanor sex charge filed in November in Johnson County.
Olesen had been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior for, among other things, allegedly exposing himself to strangers at a Lenexa apartment complex, according to court records.
The Johnson County district attorney's office agreed on April 27 to dismiss the charge if Olesen stayed out of trouble until April 2007. Johnson County authorities revoked the diversion agreement when they learned of the Jackson County charge.
