Museum Keeps a Secure Eye on Its Cultural Treasures

A comprehensive security system deployed at the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio protects a collection of more than 30,000 works of art in addition to staff and visitors. The system integrates policies, procedures, personnel and hardware, including a key control and management system from Morse Watchmans, Oxford, Conn.

The KeyWatcher system automatically records all transactions, including user, date and time of checkout and return. At any time the Museum's Protective Services department can view who currently has which keys out and for what area.

"The tracking functions allow us to regularly remind staff who neglect to return keys," said Tim Szczepanski, Chief of Protective Services, Toledo Museum of Art. "After one or two reminders, the problem usually goes away. In fact, since we have had the KeyWatcher system we have not lost one set of keys." Key movement is traced by time, date and user code, and audit reports track keys in use, overdue keys and inconsistent key usage.

Wireless Keypads-Alarm Lock's NETPANEL Wireless Proximity and/or PIN code keypad series with two-door controller are wireless versions of the Trilogy DK/PDK3000 Digital and HID-reader keypads. The NETPANEL Controller supports two keypads for back-to-back use or two door systems and has a Wiegand input for other approved Wiegand output readers.

Entry-Level Access Control-Honeywell's NetAXS-123 is a standalone, Web-based access control system for small- to medium-sized businesses that need to secure one, two or three doors. NetAXS-123 is easy to install, operate and maintain and grows with end-users as their business grows.

Improved Controller Capabilities-New improvements to Linear's v1.3 APeX Controller include a selectable safe anti-tailgate feature; an automatic close command if gate is off limit (with countdown); increased flexibility with run alarm and pre-start alarm; expanded radio reception range; and new auxiliary relay delay functions.

TWIC/PIV PACS-e-DATA's browser-based, embedded Physical Access Control System (PACS) is specialized for government, ports, airports and border applications. e-DATA readers feature an integrated fingerprint biometrics module that is HSPD-12, FIPS 201 and TWIC/PIV compliant.
