Visual Defence to enhance security and passenger safety for the Montreal Transit Corporation

May 13, 2008

RICHMOND HILL, ON , May 13 /PRNewswire/ - Visual Defence, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a $CAD 0.87 million contract to integrate video analytics with the existing video surveillance system for the Montreal Transit Corporation (MTC), to provide an intelligent surveillance solution.

The project, funded by Transit-Secure, which pays for anti-terrorist security upgrades in Canada's public transit systems, will be deployed in all 68 metro stations across the city. The solution will use video analytics to detect people on the tracks and suspicious baggage left in metro stations.

Visual Defence will integrate the video analytics system to the existing Alstom Control Center, alerting MTC Security Operators to critical security and passenger safety incidents occurring within the stations. "The main reason for the system is to prevent terrorism," said MTC officials(x). Adding, "We hope the system will also help detect people who venture into potentially dangerous subway tunnels for non-terrorist activities."

"Video analytics are increasingly becoming an important component of video surveillance systems," says Barry Tal , CEO for Visual Defence. "Visual Defence is extremely pleased to leverage its integration capabilities to allow MTC to take advantage of these advancing technologies within their existing surveillance infrastructure."

The project, beginning immediately, is scheduled for completion by Q1 2009.
