EDS Awarded $11.6 Million VA Contract for HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification Cards

HERNDON, Va., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded EDS an $11.6 million contract to help the department develop and provide personal identity verification (PIV) card solutions to all VA employees, affiliates and contractors in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). Under the Personal Identity Verification Deployment and Operations/Maintenance (PIV DOM) contract, EDS will support the VA objective to issue PIV cards for authentication and identity verification services in a commonly accepted identification card recognized across the federal government.

EDS will support the implementation and deployment of PIV cards to more than 200 VA Medical and Benefit sites nationwide. In addition, EDS will establish PIV card deployment teams; provide training for VA officials issuing PIV cards; and establish supporting warehouse, staging, and shipping facilities.

"This follow-on project with EDS represents a further commitment by the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish cohesive and cost-effective authentication and authorization services required to support HSPD-12 compliance," said Dennis Stolkey, vice president and general manager, EDS U.S. Government and Public Sector. "EDS and its team will leverage the experience we've obtained through identity management programs with other federal agencies to support the VA's objectives."

EDS has worked with the VA on previous identity management projects such as the Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure Project Implementation and Training Support program with the VA Office of Cyber and Information Security.
