Mercury Computer Systems Reinvigorates UAV Program and Homeland Security Application

(NASDAQ: MRCY), a leading provider of specialized, high-performance computing solutions for HPC and embedded computing markets, was awarded design wins by two global technology companies that specialize in information systems and solutions for security applications.

Mercury puts the SPARC back into leading reconnaissance program

A long-standing defense customer enlisted Mercury to help sustain its UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) program by providing a powerful single-board computer to replace its SPARC (Scalable Processor ARChitecture)-based solution, which was discontinued by a third party. Mercury supplied the Momentum Series VLA-150 UltraSPARC(R) IIi+ Single-Board Computer, a high- performance 6U module that provides flexible I/O and board-to-board communications to other systems.

To meet the existing and forecasted demands of the customer's program, Mercury obtained a substantial inventory of UltraSPARC IIi+ processors, which prevented a premature technology refresh and will result in significant cost and time savings for the customer.

Mercury delivers faster, better imaging with 5x system performance improvement

A leading provider of inspection solutions turned to Mercury to gain a competitive edge for its scanning system. Mercury evaluated several hardware acceleration technologies, including FPGAs and GPUs, before landing on a solution using the multicore Cell Broadband Engine(TM) processor.

Mercury maximized processor performance with a customized algorithm. Combined with Mercury's MultiCore Framework software and professional services, the customer achieved a 5x performance increase and enhanced image scans.
