ADT Donates Costumes to Award Winners

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) announced today that ADT Security Services, Inc., will donate new McGruff the Crime Dog costumes to the winners of the 2007 McGruff Crime Prevention Awards of Excellence. McGruff the Crime Dog is NCPC's icon for crime prevention.

The six winners will receive their awards from NCPC on October 4, 2007 , at the 8th National Conference on Preventing Crime in Atlanta , GA. The costumes will be presented to the winners' local law enforcement agencies.

Since 2005, ADT has donated costumes to 31 local law enforcement agencies that were recognized by NCPC for their year-round commitment to educating communities about how to stay safe from crime. The individuals and organizations selected in 2007 to receive a free costume are:

-- Nick Arlt (Wisconsin) for Crime Prevention Citizen/Volunteer of the Year -- Daryl Pearson (Washington) for Crime Prevention Officer of the Year -- Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County (Florida) for Crime Prevention Program of the Year, city with a population of over 250,000 -- Ewa Weed & Seed (Hawaii) for Crime Prevention Program of the Year, city with a population of less than 250,000 -- Darkness to Light (South Carolina) for Crime Prevention Program of the Year (state or national) -- Virginia Crime Prevention Association for Crime Prevention State Association or Coalition of the Year

ADT donated an additional costume as a posthumous honor for Ruth Hallman -- a tireless Neighborhood Watch and community crime prevention volunteer from Lansing , MI, who was killed during a home invasion on July 29, 2007 . Her contributions to crime prevention are well known throughout her community, and will be acknowledged by ADT and NCPC with a costume donated in her name to the Lansing Police Department.
