June 10, 2008

OTTAWA , June 10 /PRNewswire/ - Pleora Technologies, a leading supplier of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) video connectivity products today unveiled the ultra-small and low-power iPORT NTx-Mini, a 3rd generation in-camera IP Engine sets the benchmark for performance, reliability and ease of use for Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) connectivity. With the capability for image streaming at the full GigE rate, a 42 mm x 42 mm form factor, and 1.45 Watts of power consumption it is suitable for the creation of advanced small-form factor cameras.

Building on the success of the PT1000-VB, the fully GigE Vision(TM) and GenICam compliant iPORT NTx-Mini is the first product based on Pleora's all-new 3rd generation hardware platform. The NTx-Mini represents substantial benefits to camera manufacturers in that it delivers the industry's smallest foot-print, lowest power consumption without sacrificing real-time performance and flexibility.

"The flexible design of the iPORT NTx-Mini allows our camera partners to freely choose how they integrate Pleora's high-performance GigE connectivity solution into their cameras," said George Chamberlain , President of Pleora Technologies. "Our in-camera offerings cover the entire spectrum - from a very affordable off-the-shelf product that seamlessly interfaces with virtually any camera with minimal development efforts, to fully customized solutions based on IP Cores for high volume applications that require complete control over form factor, components and functionality".

The modular design of the NTx-Mini allows high levels of differentiation between camera models in the camera form-factor, and local I/O characteristics. The NTx-Mini provides a Main Board which interfaces to optional AdaptRBoard or FlexEBoards, or equivalents depending on application requirements. As the heart of the IP engine, the Main Board manages the conversion of imaging data to IP packets at the full 1 Gb/s data rate. The AdaptRBoard interface allows the selection of standard or customized general purpose input/out (GPIO) and triggering capabilities and extends the capabilities of the Main Board, providing it with, for instance, TTL GPIO and RS-232 transceiver capabilities. The FlexEBoard interface is used to connect power and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) functionality to the NTx-Mini, via a FPC (Flat Printed Circuit) cable.

This modular design makes it straightforward for camera vendors to install the NTx-Mini boards with more flexibility inside the camera. For instance, the Ethernet RJ-45 can be provided horizontally and vertically and the Power and PLC connector can be independently positioned.

For applications requiring the ultimate flexibility Pleora provides a solution based on an IP Core with complete reference designs for all NTx-Mini components, allowing camera vendors to fully customize the design of the PCB boards to fit their needs. Both Pleora and customer logic can be integrated into a low-power single-FPGA camera solution, using off-the-shelf NTx-Mini hardware or customer-defined hardware.

Bundled software

The iPORT NTx-Mini is part of Pleora's end-to-end GigE Vision-compliant connectivity solution, and is bundled with the following Pleora software:

- eBUS Driver Suite - award-winning high-performance drivers that efficiently stream imaging data directly to PC memory leaving the PC computing resources fully available for image processing - iPORT PureGEV Suite and iPORT Vision Suite - powerful and easy-to-use software packages that include sample applications and Software Development Kits (SDKs) which allow users to quickly develop custom applications - iPORT AutoGEV - a unique GenICam XML management tool for creating and maintaining GenICam compliant devices
