Sept. 18, 2007

PALM HARBOR, Fla., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared"), the non-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, today announced the final nominees for its 4th annual Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLA). The GISLAs are given to individuals who have significantly enhanced the information technology (IT) security workforce by demonstrating a leadership role in any IT security workforce improvement initiative, program or project on either a government-wide or agency-specific basis.

This year, three awards are being given, one each for the following categories: Senior Non-IT Security Managers (such as CIOs, CFOs, IGs and project managers) and Senior IT Security Managers who are considered based on their contributions to the overall improvement of the information security workforce; and Non-Managerial IT Security Professionals who have distinguished themselves in the implementation or management of at least a component of an agency's security program.

"2007 marks an unprecedented year of workforce professionalization due in large part to the increased momentum of several high-impact federal information security workforce initiatives," said Lynn McNulty, CISSP, (ISC)2 director of government affairs. "We are seeing more and more skilled and experienced individuals rise up from the field into leadership positions, making significant contributions to the improvement of their agency's workforce. Those being recognized as this year's GISLA finalists should be very proud of their accomplishments and the lasting impact their efforts will have on the profession."

Since its inception, the GISLA program, part of (ISC)2's global awards program, has gained significant industry distinction, with nomination submissions more than doubling since the program's inaugural year in 2004. Each year, a nominations committee within (ISC)2's U.S. Government Advisory Board for Cyber Security (GABCS) reviews the award candidates and recommends final nominees based upon its selection criteria and eligibility requirements. Members of the GABCS also select the three GISLA winners from the identified categories of nominees.

(ISC)2 officials, along with media sponsor 1105 Government Information Group, will honor the GISLA winners on October 3, 2007 , during an evening dinner ceremony at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va., from 6:00 - 10:30 p.m. EDT .
