TAMPA , Fla., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- GarrettCom(TM), Inc., Fremont, Calif., today announced its newest convection-cooled managed Ethernet switch, at the DistribuTECH 2008 Conference and Exposition here. Targeted at the power utilities industry, the highly configurable, substation-hardened Magnum(TM) 6K32FC offers up to 16 standard fiber ports or 8 Gigabit (Gb) ports in a rack-mount space-efficient package. The Magnum 6K32FC will be on exhibit at the GarrettCom booth: 1018.
For use in fiber-rich power utility substation applications, the 6K32FC supports double the number of standard fiber ports and double the number of Gb ports as the company's popular Magnum 6K32TRC switch. A typical application may include fiber connectivity to IEDs, RTUs, HMI computers, routers, video surveillance cameras, smaller field switches, and other managed switches including multiple Gb backbone interconnections and redundancy.
In addition, the 6K32FC has the highest energy efficiency of any rack-mount substation switch. Utilizing a patent-pending static thermal design, the 6K32FC is a "green", environmentally-friendly product. The product utilizes techniques such as internal heat barriers, multiple heat sinks throughout the unit, extra cooling space and premium high-efficiency components to optimize cooling efficiency.

The four configuration slots in the Magnum 6K32FC support more than 30 port modules offering a comprehensive variety of port types and combinations, including Power over Ethernet (PoE). The modular Magnum line offers power options including AC and -48, 24, 125 VDC with Dual-Source. Conformal coating for high-moisture or corrosive environments is available.
