The security challenges and risks faced by organizations around the world evolve and shift rapidly — as do the emerging solutions. The ASIS International 58th Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2012) will give security practitioners the chance to acquire the knowledge, tools, and techniques required to protect life and mitigate risk to property, and information.
Attendees of the four-day annual event — starting on Sept. 10 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia — will find new offerings in education programs, exhibits and networking to prepare them for the future.
Information Security
(ISC)2 (“ISC-squared”), the largest non-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals and administrators of the CISSP, will once again co-locate its global conference with ASIS 2012. This partnership broadens the scope of the educational programs and opens valuable new networking opportunities for both traditional and information security professionals.
Registrants for both events may choose from more than 200 conference sessions and 24 education tracks, visit more than 700 exhibitors (including the (ISC)2 pavilion), and network with security professionals from across the industry.
Professionals pursuing ASIS board certification or (ISC)2 credentials may consider attending preparation programs in the days preceding the Seminar in Philadelphia. ASIS certification reviews will be offered Sept. 7-8 for the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP) examinations. In addition, a series of (ISC)2 credential clinics are scheduled (CISSP, CSSLP, CAP and SSCP), as well as an official two-day review seminar for both CSSLP and CISSP.
Educational Tracks
ASIS will once again present a dedicated educational track for security systems integrators. Endorsed by PSA Security Network, the sessions are designed to provide systems integrators with insight into the day-to-day challenges faced by end-users. End-user panels will tackle issues in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals and healthcare to education and corporate campuses. Emerging business trends and practices in cloud computing, consulting and collaborative selling will also be presented.
“The relationship between the systems integrator and the security practitioner is a pivotal one,” says Bill Bozeman, CPP, president and CEO of PSA Security, “The opportunity to open a dialogue between the customer and the service providers is absolutely invaluable.”
Two new, small group learning opportunities — poster presentations and TechTalk — will also launch this year. Presenters convey their security research, solutions and innovative applications to small audiences in poster presentations. These important, but limited-interest topics complete the full range of security topics at the Seminar. The posters remain available for viewing during exhibit hours and are located in the Exhibit Hall.
Need a conversation more than a presentation? Attendees can join one of the many TechTalk opportunities in the Exhibit Hall. These small group discussions are moderated, but allow the group to take the conversation where they feel it needs to go. Colleagues can share and exchange their expertise and experience. Both of these new educational forums are also open to exhibits-only registrants.
Networking Opportunities
Whether you are looking to connect with peers in physical or logical security, find a solutions provider, or identify a new business partner, ASIS 2012 offers opportunities to network at every turn — formally and informally.
The week opens with the ASIS Foundation Golf Tournament, Young Professionals Reception, and a Welcome Reception on Sept. 9. First-time Seminar attendees and new ASIS members are also invited to attend a special reception on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
The President’s Reception will be held at the National Constitution Center, America’s most interactive and provocative history museum, on Sept. 10. Guests are invited to explore the story of “We the People” in a whole new way while enjoying food and drinks and networking with fellow security practitioners. Sept. 12 features the ASIS Foundation Event at the Field House — offering some great food and energetic music as the event winds to a close in Philadelphia.
