The false-alarm-prone perimeter security system at New York area airports

Jan. 18, 2010

Video worth watching about Raytheon's project for Port Authority of NY/NJ airports.

My initial guess is that they are mounting fence sensors on existing chain link fence which is prone to wind-caused motion, but that doesn't explain why they still haven't set up the airport's "command and control" center (maybe that's a good thing that they don't have someone monitoring it yet, since it sounds like they are facing a high number of false alerts off this new perimeter system). Moral of this story: Even if you're a big dog integrator, you still can wind up in client's dog house.
