Having covered the security industry for four years now, I think I'm pretty well-versed in your typical deployments for commercial video surveillance systems. Retailers, critical infrastructure and government facilities are some of the applications that come immediately to mind.

I must admit, however, that I've never thought about bakeries as being good case studies for the advantages of implementing CCTV. That was until I heard Buddy Valastro, star of the TLC network's "Cake Boss," speak glowingly of how an Interlogix surveillance system has helped provide him with peace of mind.

"How do cameras help a business like mine? It's a tool I can't really live without," the Carlo's Bakery owner told a throng of media members and attendees at the ISC West 2012 tradeshow in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Not only do cameras help Valastro to keep an eye for out criminal activity at his business, he said they also allow him to monitor the productivity of his employees.

"That's power," he said of the systems capabilities. "It's been such a great tool to a baker."

Valastro didn't just show up to tout the exploits of his Interlogix system, however, he also unveiled a cake in the company's honor.

"We couldn't come without a cake. We're calling it our cake cam," he said.
