Honoring Innovation

June 13, 2016
The security industry’s most innovative collaborative projects will be featured in SD&I this December — enter yours today

For the first time in 2016, SD&I will be an integral participant in our publishing group’s annual Security Innovation Awards — truly an opportunity to earn the respect and recognition that your integration firm deserves.

The Innovation Awards have been around for quite a while; in fact, this is the 10th year of the program, traditionally presented by our sister publication, Security Technology Executive. In the past 10 years, security integrators have played a key role in the Innovation Awards — after all, someone has to oversee and implement these massive-scale security projects.

Thus, in 2016, SD&I will feature Innovation Award projects, highlighting the key role of the security integrator and how that firm collaborated closely with all the stakeholders of a project, from vendor to end-user and anywhere in between.

Our December issue will feature the integrator from one of the five winning projects on the cover. As the awards are presented in partnership with our Secured Cities Conference (Houston in November), there will also be an awards reception where top players from winning projects will be honored.
Integrators are free to enter themselves, but I would also encourage you to team up with the key vendor(s) on your most impressive project(s) and enter together.

How it Works
Integrators, in partnership with key vendor(s) and end-users should submit a detailed account of an innovative security project that has recently been completed. Be sure that your end-user client is willing to be featured in print! Entry requirements and forms are available at www.securityinfowatch.com/11713880.

A panel of security and public safety experts will select Gold Award winners in five categories: Municipal/Urban Business Districts/Policing Districts; Campus (K-12 and Colleges & Universities); Healthcare Facilities & Campuses; Transportation; and General Corporate Enterprises.

Judges choose a Grand Platinum Project among the Gold winners. Note that there is an entry fee and that multiple entries are accepted (thus the partnership with your vendor).

How to Win
What makes a security project a winning one? In reviewing judge’s comments for the last 7 years, scope, collaboration and uniqueness are consistently key elements of winning projects. It helps to have a sprawling facility or unique problem that required a new way of thinking or technology implementation to fix.

Collaboration among stakeholders is also paramount to successful entries. Be sure to include detailed interactions among vendors, consultants, integrator and the end-user client.

“Every project featured a unique challenge that was not only met by cutting-edge technology solutions, but with meticulous project planning and collaborative efforts from all involved,” our Editorial Director and Secured Cities Conference Director Steve Lasky said at a last year’s awards ceremony.

I would encourage you to take a look at a few of the previous winning entries, which are available at the link mentioned earlier (scroll all the way to the bottom for them). If you have any questions about the awards, please don’t hesitate to contact us or see the ad on page 51 for more details.

We are looking forward to seeing the best that the security industry has to offer in terms of collaborative projects, and SD&I is poised to honor the integrators who made it happen.
