Woman reportedly posed as nurse to steal medication

WINSTON-SALEM --

A woman working as a nurse at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center wasn't certified and used the position to steal medication, the State Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

Accord to the hospital, Leoette Scott was hired in June 2008 and worked at the hospital until September 2008.

"Shortly after her arrival, the unit manager began to have suspicions about the employee due to medication discrepancies," a statement from WFUBMC read. "An investigation was conducted and resulted in her leaving Wake Forest Baptist shortly thereafter."

Officials at the hospital said there was no indication that patient safety had been compromised, adding that Scott had been hired from "a reputable nurse staffing agency and all of her requisite paperwork was in place."

Scott was charged with embezzlement of a controlled substance by an employee of a registrant and practicing nursing without a license. The charges allege she stole 8 mg of Dilaudid, a painkiller.
