Turner Construction to be lead contractor for new high school

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, a leading builder of education facilities, was selected by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to manage construction of a new $90 million Central Region High School #16 in Los Angeles, Calif. Since 2003, Turner has managed construction on 18 LAUSD schools, representing a total construction value of $580 million.

The 210,000 sq. ft. Central Region High School #16 will include 75-classrooms serving more than 2,000 students on a 13-acre site. The school will also feature a parking area for 194 vehicles, rooftop play courts and a 57,000 sq. ft. athletic field. Green elements of the school include improved indoor air quality, a tubular day-lighting system and the diversion of 85% of the construction and demolition waste.

LAUSD honored Turner Construction Company as the "2008 Contractor of the Year" Award for exceeding expectations and the company's exemplary contribution to the New School Construction Program and its commitment to safety practices on the LAUSD projects.

In addition, Turner recently completed the LAUSD East Valley High School 1A project in Sun Valley ten weeks ahead of schedule and three months before the start of the new 2009 school year.
