Up to 45 to go jobless from UK alarm products firm

Up to 45 staff at Mitcheldean company Cooper Security will go into the festive period jobless after the firm made major redundancies.

Staff working in the assembly of burglar alarms have been axed after the production line was moved away from the site at Vantage Point business park.

Technician Abdul Ramli, from Mitcheldean, had been with the company for 20 years but has now found a new job after being made redundant last month. He said he still thought highly of the firm despite losing his job.

"I was a technician but they have made my job obsolete," he said. "I'm happy with the company, they treated me right and I think it's one of the best companies in the Forest of Dean."

Cooper Security is one of the world's largest manufacturers of security equipment. The company refused to comment on the job losses.
