Government Fiscal Year 2008 Yields 32 Percent Increase In Company's Small Business Subcontract Awards

SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va. , Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) announced today that its small business strategy has yielded a record level of small business utilization for Government Fiscal Year 2008 (GFY 08), which ended in September. During GFY 08, SAIC awarded more than $1.6 billion in subcontracts to small businesses, reflecting a 32 percent increase from last year's $1.2 billion. This included approximately $700 million awarded to women- and minority-owned firms, and more than $300 million awarded to veteran-owned businesses.

SAIC's GFY 08 performance significantly exceeded the government's statutory goals for women- and minority-owned businesses, as well as service disabled veteran-owned businesses. The results are the culmination of a series of initiatives implemented by SAIC, aimed at developing strong relationships with small businesses and increasing business opportunities for them. These initiatives include free training provided to small businesses by SAIC in areas including business and proposal development, pricing, and program management.

"We are very proud of our small business record and performance," said Arnold Punaro , SAIC executive vice president of Government Affairs, Communications and Support Operations. "SAIC views small business development as good business, both for our customers and our economy. We remain dedicated to fully employing their capabilities and innovations to help address the complex challenges facing our customers. We will continue to mentor and nurture small businesses to enable them to grow and be competitive."

SAIC is committed to small business development, and has been recognized for outstanding work by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies. The company has earned 11 DoD Nunn-Perry Awards for outstanding mentor-protege performance, two SBA Dwight D. Eisenhower Awards, as well as two SBA Frances B. Perkins Awards, demonstrating SAIC's commitment to small business excellence.
