School district and private security firm sued over alleged discrimination

A former security employee at Texas Star USA has filed a lawsuit against the company and the Waco Independent School District alleging that she was demoted because a school police official did not want a woman doing the work.

According to the lawsuit, filed in Waco 414th State District Court, Donna K. Grinie was removed from her position as guard supervisor because district police chief Gil Miller did not want her to be in charge of other guards. Grinie was demoted and received a salary deduction, and eventually left her job in February 2006.

Grinie originally filed a complaint with the Texas Commission on Human Rights. That claim was dismissed, but Grinie was allowed to pursue her own action within 60 days of the dismissal. Grinie is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit.
