SIA seeks to educate manufacturers of power transformers

Sept. 3, 2008
Federal act puts requirements on manufacturers

The Security Industry Association, an industry organization representing the needs of the security technology manufacturing community, will be holding a teleconference on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. EDT, to address new federal requirements.

The federal requirements are part of the Energy Independence and Security Act, which became effective on July 1, 2008. The act affects requirements for class 2 transformers used by end users, and the law makes the new requirements mandatory and enforces them with a per-unit-sold fine for non-compliance. According to the Security Industry Association, the act applies to requirements for life safety and security equipment.

The teleconference will address the requirements and seek to identify SIA's public position on these new requirements. The organization said it "can advocate for an exception to this law applicable to life-safety and security devices."

Interested persons can register for SIA's conference call by reaching out to SIA's Tom O'Connor at 703-647-8483 or [email protected].
