Technical sessions, panel discussions to take place at tradeshow safety course

ISA EXPO 2008, 14-16 October at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas, will feature a dedicated conference track on safety.

The ISA EXPO Safety exchange track includes peer-reviewed technical sessions covering topics such as safety instrumentation, SIS application, alarm management, competency, and more. Several sessions are planned during the three conference days, including "SIS Applications in Oil and Gas Production," a presentation that explores the new safety instrumented system engineering techniques required to meet HSE standards for energy facilities.

Another panel discussion, "Control Competency and Certification," will consider the requirements of the end user community in terms of personnel competency verification, compares currently available options, and looks to the future of certification of personnel.

"Managing Safety Instrumented Systems," "SIS Detailed Implementation," and "Alarm Management," are some of the additional conference sessions held during the safety exchange track.

In addition to peer-reviewed conference sessions, ISA EXPO is also offering X-Pod Technology Briefings throughout the conference where leading process automation experts deliver timely briefings on the latest technology developments, applications, and the effective implementation of industry standards. The briefings are available on the show floor and are free for exhibit attendees. X-Pod Briefings include:

• Identifying and Fixing Your "Bad Actor Alarms"
• Safety Buses – The Theory and the Reality
• Safely Using Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Locations – ISA12 Applications
• Safety Instrumented Systems: Design, Analysis, and Justification
• Alarm Systems in Process Automation – Using ISA18 Standards Effectively

In addition to the safety conference track, ISA EXPO will feature five additional tracks: enterprise integration, process automation, security, environmental and quality control, and wireless and networking. Each track will offer technical conference sessions and open-to-all X-Pod briefings on the show floor. For more information on the ISA EXPO technical conference, exhibition, and special events, visit www.isa.org/isaexpo2008 or call (919)549-8411.
