Three-story, 78-room hotel planned

Johnson Properties is developing a new hotel in Edwardsville.

The Fairview Heights developer is working on plans to build the metro-east's first Wyndham Hotel. The three-story, 78-room building will be built on 2.2 acres at the corner of Country Club Drive and Illinois 157. The hotel will have an indoor pool, meeting rooms, a fitness center, breakfast bar and be next door to Sunset Hills Country Club. The country club has approved a deal to provide hotel guests with limited golf and restaurant privileges.

Johnson Properties President Terry Johnson said the site needs to be annexed into the city before construction can begin. He said he hopes to get the project started by the fall.

"We are extremely excited about this project and feel it will be a win-win for both our hotel guests and for Sunset Hills by providing additional revenue to the club," Johnson said.

The metro-east developer also is leading construction of a new Hampton Inn Hotel in Columbia that is expected to open Aug. 12.
