MAC Systems, a New England systems integrator that was part of the independent systems integrators alliance and national network SecurityNet, is now part of Siemens Building Technologies.
Siemens announced this afternoon that it has purchased the Canton, Mass., firm, and that firm will continue to operate out of its current location, serving as a branch office of Siemens Building Technologies at least for the near term.
Although the purchase price was not disclosed, the acquisition is considered fairly significant. Via its membership in the SecurityNet integration network, the company was able to work with other member companies on national account projects. The company also had a long history in the New England area, and had installed some 4,000 separate systems and almost 20,000 card readers.
George West, vice president of security solutions for Siemens Building Technologies, said the purchase made a lot of sense for SBT.
"We're tremendously excited about this acquistion; Bob and Kate and the MAC Systems team built a wonderful company," said West. "They have the same philosophy as we have at SBT, and that fundamental philosophy is to create long-term partnerships with clients to help them solve their security challenges. The MAC Systems group could evolve with their clients' needs."
West said that Bob McMenimon would continue to be part of the MAC Systems team for the near future, but after some time transitioning MAC Systems into SBT, he said McMenimon would likely pursue other options. Siemens is not currently rebranding MAC Systems as SBT; he said that with a strong brand like MAC Systems -- which he thinks is considered one of the premier North American integration companies -- the transition needs to be well-planned.
West said that besides the solid team of people who comprise MAC Systems, the client list was also important to Siemens Building Technologies.
"There are several prominent organizations that MAC Systems works with that we also serve," said West.
Founded in 1981, MAC Systems has built a client base that has included such firms as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Polaroid, Raytheon, Hasbro, Harvard University, Apple Computer and many other nationally known firms and organizations.
Besides the new location of MAC Systems in Canton, Mass. (near Boston), SBT also has its own location in Canton, Mass., as well as nearby regional locations in Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut.
