Asheville, N.C., police have decided to fine alarm system owners for false calls.
Following a greater than 90 percent false alarm rate, the town newspaper, the Citizen Times reported that the city has enacted a policy that would charge after three false alarms in a year. Fines would start at $50, but could increase to $500.
The new policy will be effective on July 1, although the ordinance was created in 2002, but not enforced until this year.
