Company plans construction project for store in New Orleans' Lakeview area

NEW ORLEANS --

Apple will soon give local iPod fans something to cheer about: a $1.9 million Apple store is coming to Lakeview.

The store promises to sell all things Apple, from the popular iPods to computers and MacBooks.

Apple Inc. secured a building permit in Jefferson Parish on June 23, expressing their desire to construct the store inside Lakeside Shopping Center, in place of the former Discovery Store.

Shawmut Design and Construction of Boston is listed as the project’s contractor – the same company that built freestanding Apple retail stores in New York and Boston.

A spokeswoman from Apple would not provide projected construction start or opening dates for the Lakeside store.

It will be Apple’s second store in Louisiana, including one near the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
