LaPenta's identity business pays $71.5M for military engineering and integration firm

Robert Lapenta, former co-founder of L-3 Communications who left to form identity and biometrics firm L-1 Identity Solutions, is still adding companies to his portfolio.

The latest on that list is the planned acquisition of Advanced Concepts Inc. (ACI), a Maryland-based integration engineering firm and technology developer that has worked with the U.S. military and intelligence communities. The company supplies engineering and systems integration services, as well as expertise in enterprise network engineering, data communications and more.

The acquisition is expected to close sometime before June 30th of this year, at a cost of $71.5 million. L-1 is best known for its acquisition/merger of Viisage and Identix.

ACI brings a staff of 300 employees with an average of 23 years of experience each, most of which have security clearances giving them top secret and higher access. The company will act as a division within L-1, and will remain ins current facility in Columbia, Md. The company also has 6 other offices around the nation, and has been consistently recognized by Deloitte & Touche for its high rate of growth.
