Acquisition brings aboard complementary offerings in 13.56MHz smart card technology

On Thursday, HID Global, a part of ASSA ABLOY's Global Technologies Division, said it has acquired Integrated Engineering (IE). IE is a European producer of contactless smart card readers, based in Amsterdam.

Integrated Engineering's product line has been heavily focused on delivering MIFARE and DESFire solutions for security, access control and the identification markets, and ranging to the e-payment and electronic passport markets.

The company was noted for being the first to deliver a reader compatible with PIV requirements (HSPD-12/FIPS 201).

The MIFARE platform has long been an offering in comparison to HID's own iCLASS product line. Both companies offer the current 13.56MHz contactless smart card technology.

"By adding this leading brand in contactless smart card technology, HID Global has acted on its commitment to provide leadership in 13.56 MHz technologies, including MIFARE," said Denis HĂ©bert, president and CEO of HID Global, in a statement regarding the acquisition.
