Fire, life safety products company sold to English fire and security and manufacturing firm

Longtime American company Wheelock Inc., which has been well-known for its notification lines, from bells and strobes to public address and emergency communications systems, has become part of U.K. company Cooper Industries.

The acquisition places Wheelock into the folds of the company's Cooper Menvier division. Cooper Menvier manufactures not only emergency and facility lighting solutions, but also security and fire panels, and fire detection products. Brands of Cooper Menvier include Scantronix, Fulleon, Menvier, and Luminox.

The U.S.-focused Wheelock product line, which spans from not only security and safety, but also to general public address and paging systems, is expected to complement the Cooper Menvier offerings, and will allow Cooper Menvier to offer UL-listed products thanks to Wheelock's UL listings.

Cooper Industries Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kirk S. Hachigian said in a prepared statement that the acquisition does indeed help Cooper Menvier expand its product offerings.

“We can now offer an even broader range of products that meet UL, IEC and other major electrical standards to customers and distributors in our international distribution network, including the multi-standard Asia and Middle East markets," said Hachigian. "This acquisition augments our global reach with new Cooper products that meet fire safety, electronic security and emergency lighting requirements for every region of the world.”

Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
