Strengths of home security and cash transport divisions drive company's earnings

Security provider The Brink's Company announced today results for its second quarter and earnings were positive. Brink's saw higher Q2 earnings, with $21.2 million in income, as compared to $2.2 million in income the same quarter a year earlier.

The earnings increase predominantly stemmed from the company's secure transportation and cash management operations. Brink's reported that although its cash transport business faced challenges in some European companies, those difficulties in Europe were more than offset by the company's performance in both North and South America. The company also credited higher profits at the home alarm division, Brink's Home Security.

Revenue for the quarter from continuing operations was $697.5 million, up 10 percent over a year ago.
