3M to acquire British passports, secure cards maker Security Printing and Systems

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- 3M Co., which makes products ranging from Scotch tape to medical supplies, said Tuesday it agreed to purchase Security Printing and Systems Ltd., a British maker of passports and secure cards, from German-based holding company authentos GmbH. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Security Printing and Systems provides passports for the British government and is working with the Identity and Passport Service to shift from digital passports to biometric ones.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the month, subject to customary closing conditions.
