The Federal Protective Service, an arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that evaluates security technologies and provides security services, is using A4 Vision Inc.'s 3D facial recognition technology to secure the directors entrance at their regional headquarters in Federal Way, Wash. The agency is also using the site to assess the A4Vision 3D Face Reader. The value of the award was not disclosed. FPS recommends security practices and enhancement to many federal agencies leasing space in GSA buildings. "Our evaluations of biometric security had been disappointing until we implemented A4Vision," says Don Bowman, FPS' acting regional director. A4Vision, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., last year gained an investment from In-Q-Tel, a venture capital entity of the CIA.
