Service line locations being struck throughout the country as copper value stays high

El Dorado County sheriff's deputies arrested one man and were searching for three other people suspected of stealing between $250,000 and $300,000 worth of telephone cable.

The cable was taken from an SBC service yard and numerous service lines throughout the county.

Detectives said the suspects regularly delivered large amounts of copper wiring to a recycling center in Sacramento County, where they would sell the copper for cash.

On June 29, deputies search- ed a residence on the 6000 block of Outingdale Road in Somerset and arrested Aaron Gilis, 31, of Reno.

Two men and one woman, all from Somerset, were being sought Friday in connection with the thefts.
