ATLANTA_German electronics and engineering company Siemens AG said Wednesday it received a $28 million (€22 million) contract from Turner Construction Co. to build a baggage handling and inline security system for JetBlue Airways Corp.'s new Terminal 5 at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Under the contract, its Siemens Energy & Automation's Airport Logistics division will provide more than 15,000 feet (4,500 meters) of conveyor for four ticket counter take-away conveyor systems, two curbside check-in conveyor systems, two oversize conveyor lines, cross-over conveyor equipment and six slope plate carousels.
Additionally, Siemens will supply an in-line security system that can incorporate ten explosive detection systems.
The Terminal 5 project is a $740 million (€582 million) project that will comprise a new 635,000-square-foot (57,100-square-meter), 26-gate terminal with the capacity to serve 20 million passengers annually. The project, including the baggage handling system, is slated to be completed in the first quarter of 2009.
