New York-based Telephonics Corp. announced it has acquired video surveillance developer JTECH in a move to expand the company's surveillance offerings.

Telephonics, a subsidiary of Griffon Corp., is a communication and sensor system solutions developer for the military and commercial markets. Telephonics' Electronic System Division announced the acquisition of JTECH, formerly known as Guardian Solutions.

Officials say JTECH's intelligent video surveillance technology integrates video and non-video sensors for a common operating picture that provides early threat detection.

"This acquisition emphasizes our commitment to expand an already successful role in the homeland security, anti-terrorism force protection market," Donald Pastor, Telephonics Electronic Systems Division president, said in a statement.

The Telephonic acquisition announcement comes after a recent contract with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to integrate the company's mobile surveillance systems for the Secure Border Initiative Program.
