Securing New Ground readies for annual conference in New York

Untapped opportunities in security will take center stage in New York during the 10th Annual Securing New Ground Conference November 16-17. L-3 Communications' Chairman and CEO Frank Lanza, kicks off this key event, shedding light on the future of security and of this leading defense contractor and security systems integrator.

The primary goal of the conference is to provide "the forum for industry leaders to network and discuss the future across multiple disciplines," says Michael Jones, ProFinance Associates, San Diego, one of the event founders.

"Securing New Ground has become such an important venue because it focuses on 'the business of security,'" explains Sandra Jones, principal, Sandra Jones and Company, an event founder. "In addition to hot topics, market data and revealing trends, it brings so many of the industry's power brokers and investors together."

With the history and the future of security riding on technology, this business-focused conference covers technology from a different angle, says Jeffrey Kessler, senior vice president at Lehman Brothers Inc., New York, an event founder.

"Technology is not what people buy," Kessler says. "They buy security solutions. But technology changes are the enablers, because they are the paths on which solutions travel."

Among the sponsors and speakers at the conference will be Eli Gorovici, president of DVTel Inc.; Jacob Even-Ezra, chairman of Magal Security Systems Ltd.; and Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications, on the topic of network video. "Things change quickly when a market is in transition," and as a result the players are changing, says Nilsson.

Russell L. Cersosimo, president and CEO of Guardian Protection Services Inc., and Kevin Dowd, president and CEO of Sonitrol Inc., will share the podium with Ray Gross, CEO of Security Associates International. "Smart growth" is the key, says Gross. "That means taking steps and making changes that anticipate our dealers' and customers' needs and keeps us one step ahead of them."

Among the topics on the program is a 10-year analysis of dealer trends from event partner BNP Media's Laura Stepanek. The presentation will highlight which metro areas have the highest use of alarms, video surveillance, and access control.

Leading analyst Kessler moderates "View From the Top" and will no doubt elicit insights from his panelists, Alan Calegari, Siemens Building Technologies' president for security systems; Arne Frank, chairman and CEO of Tour Andover Controls; and James Covert, chairman and CEO of HSM, Lisle, Illinois.

Investment banker Michael Jones will moderate "Meet the Trailblazers," including Jim Hull, president and CEO of Monitronics International; Gerald Vento, chairman of Westec Interactive; and Steve Ruzika, president of Devcon, which just announced two more Florida acquisitions valued at a combined $116 million. With these top executives on stage, as well as investors and industry leaders in the audience, new opportunities and new deals could be in the making.
