Acquires Swiss-based high-end networked video technology company

One of the security industry's biggest players just keeps getting bigger.

GE Security (www.gesecurity.net) has strengthened its video line-up now that it has completed the acquisition of Swiss digital video company VisioWave (www.visiowave.com). VisioWave, which was founded in 1996 and has kept its headquarters in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, is known for its development of software and hardware that allowed for the networking of digital video in enterprise operations.

"VisioWave's technology, customer relationships and industry insight fit well with our business and will help our customers accelerate improvements in their security infrastructure," said Louis Parker, COO, GE Infrastructure, Security, in a statement on Friday. "We view digital video networks as a critical component for fully integrated intelligent security platforms. VisioWave focuses on customers' business needs, which enables them to create a compelling value proposition."

The company has a staff of close to 90 product designers and salespersons, and, besides Switzerland, has offices or subsidiaries in the United States and the UK as well as France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Hong Kong. Besides its development of technology for the CCCTV/surveillance camera market, the company's technology is also used in corporate multimedia and video intranet markets.
