Applied Digital Adds RFID Maker

Company expands technology in world of healthcare security and asset management

Delray Beach, Fla.-- based Applied Digital has acquired a Vancouver, Canada-based vendor of radio frequency identification-based applications for provider organizations. Applied Digital, maker of the VeriChip implantable RFID device, will integrate eXI Wireless's RFID and bar code technologies into its suite of products. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Applied Digital, through its subsidiary VeriChip Corp., now will offer eXI's implantable and external RFID chips and applications, including HALO, an infant security system for hospitals; RoamAlert Wander Protection System, a tracking application for long-term care facilities; and Assetrac Location & Protection System, designed to help health care organizations track supplies and medical equipment. The agreement also calls for eXI's 200 dealers and distributors in North America to begin offering VeriChip products.
