Richardson Electronics Extends Distribution Agreement with Tyco Electronics

Dec. 1, 2004
Company to be world-wide distribution partner for Tyco, will have global distribution rights to company's new GPS receiver modules

Richardson Electronics, a global provider of Engineered Solutions for the RF and wireless communications, medical and security markets, today announced the signing of an extended world-wide distribution partnership with Tyco Electronics, a supplier of innovative power management and protection solutions including CoEv Magnetics, Transpower Technologies and Raychem Circuit Protection. Under the terms of the agreement, Richardson Electronics will have global distribution rights for Tyco's latest A1029-A and A1029-B GPS receiver modules.

With the addition of the Tyco's latest GPS receiver modules to Richardson's product lineup, customers can select from an expanded range of components, all from a dedicated source that understands the devices and their capabilities. The A1029-A and A1029-B GPS receiver modules will complement Richardson's existing line of integrated circuits and provide its customers with complete engineered solutions or assemblies that save money and reduce development time.

The A1029-A is the first representative of a completely new generation of GPS receiver modules that feature new levels of performance. The module combines the strength of two industry leading GPS integrated circuits: the ST Microelectronics STA2051 GPS base-band chip with embedded ARM processor, RAM and Flash coupled to the low-power and small sized SiGe SE4100L GPS RF downconverter. It offers NMEA support, an accurate 1PPS signal synchronized to the UTC, and is prepared to support WAAS/EGNOS in order to provide even higher position accuracy.

The A1029-B Plug-in module, designed for easy plug-in to motherboards, is durable under unexpected vibrations and jarring, and provides an easy antenna connection via cable and a standard SMA connector.
