Large Addition Planned for Manufacturing Facility in Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Nov. 17, 2004

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. -- Danko Construction Corp., Massena, will begin today constructing a 20,000-square-foot addition to the BreconRidge Manufacturing Solutions-leased building in the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority's Light Industrial Park.

After reviewing the numbers in the company's bid at Monday's special meeting with board members and Executive Director Daniel B. Loughey, board members voted unanimously to award the contract to Danko.

OBPA board members tabled the resolution on Wednesday for Danko, which bid the lowest of four Northern New York contractors. Vice chairman Fredrick J. Carter Sr., made the request for a list of numbers to see the construction costs broken down.

Danko will hire masons from the Watertown Union Hall and union steel workers from Hogansburg. The remaining labor will be their own.

"That never entered my mind, who they're awarding contractors," Mr. Carter said.

He is on the Building Committee, with chairwoman Connie G. Augsbury, assistant secretary Mary M. Farley and Gary R. Alford.

"We were not going to just pass this through without seeing the costs," he said. "There's a lot of money here."

There was a $273,000 difference between the highest and lowest bid. The other bids were Murnane Associates Inc., Plattsburgh, $964,000; Bette & Cring LLC, Watertown, $965,000; Acts II Construction Inc., Gouverneur, $1,057,000; and Continental Construction LLC, Gouverneur, $1,071,000.
