Association seeking volunteers to help develop industry standards

The Security Industry Association announced this week that its Standards Committee is considering forming a "Perimeter Security Subcommittee" based on inquires made by the organization's members, as well as industry stakeholders.

According to a statement, the subcommittee would be made up of volunteers from equipment manufacturers and systems integrators that would be responsible for producing standards, guidelines and handbooks that address the business needs of the industry.

The SIA said that some of the subcommittee's projects could include:

- Developing performance and operational standards for the video perimeter security of critical infrastructure sites.

- Creating perimeter security standards for gate operations.

- And, considering possible performance and operational standards for other perimeter security technologies.

The SIA said that it would launch the new subcommittee during the first quarter of 2012 if there is enough interest. For more information about joining the proposed subcommittee, contact SIA Director of Standards Joe Gittens at [email protected].
