Hoax bomb threat was emailed to Dutch TV station

A Scandinavian Airlines flight operated by United Airlines, heading for Chicago from Amsterdam, was the victim of what Dutch authorities deemed a hoax bomb threat that was e-mailed to a Dutch television station.

The RTV Noord-Holland broadcaster informed the authorities and about 90 minutes after the threat was received the authorities and United Airlines decided that there was no reason to instruct the flight to make an emergency landing. A spokesperson for United Airlines said that it was in constant contact with the aircraft and expected it to land at 1322 CDT.

The e-mail is said to have originated in Germany and is one of a number of hoax bomb threats that have affected flights across Europe in recent weeks, forcing emergency landings.
