We take a special focus this week on sporting security, which deserves close inspection considering next week's start of the London Olympics. Here's the sporting/event security news from around the world:

(1) G4S CEO Nick Buckles apologized to British lawmakers this week for his company’s inability to provide enough security guards for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. The country recently had to call in 3,500 troops to make up for the shortfall.

(2) Tacks were thrown along the route of a stage of the Tour de France, puncturing the tires of 30 riders. One competitor was even forced to quit the race after suffering a broken collarbone as a result of the act of sabotage.

(3) Authorities quietly combed Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday during a baseball game after someone phoned in a bomb threat. The stadium was the third Detroit landmark to receive a bomb threat in less than a week.
